Pop/Review Delta of Venus - Disengaged b/w Slipping

With their double A-side single, “Disengaged b/w Slipping,” Delta of Venus makes a dramatic debut, fusing Shoegaze and Indie Pop into a captivating musical experience. The band, which is from Mystic, Connecticut, creates a sound that is both ethereal and emotionally charged by combining layers of guitars bathed in reverb with atmospheric soundscapes and dreamlike melodies.

Michelle Gemma, a photographer for Mystic, directed the accompanying long-form music video, which is equally as ambitious as the song. By imagining Joan of Arc surviving past the age of nineteen and spearheading a contemporary movement of feminine resistance, it reimagines her fate. “Disengaged b/w Slipping” becomes more than just a compilation of songs thanks to this daring visual storytelling, which elevates the band's artistic quality to a new level.

With its ethereal guitar lines and sorrowful vocals floating like a mist over a restless rhythm section, "Disengaged" musically evokes a sense of desire and alienation. With its melodies that flow naturally over a bed of shimmering soundscapes, "Slipping" veers toward Shoegaze's more delicate, reflective side.

Delta of Venus solidifies their position in the Indie and Shoegaze revival movement with a production that feels both intimate and grandiose. “Disengaged b/w Slipping” is a must-hear (and must-watch) release because of their ability to combine rich visual storytelling with immersive sound, laying the groundwork for even more captivating work to come.
