Rock/Review Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends - My Face

In another life, Alien Friend played guitar and sang in the Swedish band Redmoon. This is his solo project. During 2021 and 2022, Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends released a string of singles and a double album. The latter, co-produced by the legendary David Myhr (from the Merrymakers), brings together elements of power pop, folk, and indie rock, but although many of the songs might be rooted in the musical soil of the sixties and seventies, there’s no nostalgia here.

"My Face," the closing track from Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends' latest album "No Sweets for E," encapsulates a range of emotions and themes that culminate in a powerful musical and artistic expression.

At its core, "My Face" delves into the concept of losing one's grip on various aspects of life, whether it's meaning, love, integrity, or the very essence of existence. This lyrical exploration of existential struggles and personal turmoil is both poignant and relatable, touching on the universal human experience of grappling with the complexities of life.

Yet, within the melancholic depths of its lyrics, "My Face" also serves as a celebration of art and music as transformative forces. Music has the extraordinary ability to channel emotions, express the inexpressible, and offer a sense of connection and catharsis. The track symbolizes the power of artistic expression to not only capture the complexities of human experience but also to provide solace and healing.

The presence of Andreas Quincy Dahlbäck, a notable session drummer, adds an extra layer of depth and richness to the song. His skillful drumming elevates the composition, adding a dynamic and rhythmic foundation that complements the emotional intensity of the lyrics.

As the closing track of the album, "My Face" serves as a poignant conclusion to the musical journey embarked upon throughout "No Sweets for E." It encapsulates the overarching themes of the album, combining introspection, emotional depth, and a celebration of artistic expression. The track invites listeners to reflect on their own experiences, drawing connections between the struggles and triumphs portrayed in the song and their own lives.

"My Face" stands as a testament to the profound impact of music in exploring complex emotions and conveying profound messages. Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends have crafted a song that not only resonates with listeners on a personal level but also encapsulates the broader human experience of navigating life's challenges while finding solace in the beauty of artistic creation.
