Rock/Review Motihari Brigade - Reality Show
U.K.-born singer and lead guitar player Eric Winston is the philosopher-serf behind Motihari Brigade’s unique electric vibrato sound and "escape from zombie dystopia" concept. The band’s Rock-n-Roll Thoughtcrime is inspired by the visionary writings of George Orwell and intended as an antidote to the official programming that overwhelms our tele-screens.
Motihari Brigade's official short film for the song "Reality Show" is a thought-provoking exploration of the struggle to perceive reality in a world dominated by corporate-state technological control. The band collaborated with filmmaker Jovana Tomasevic of MLADE Studio, who brilliantly brought their creative vision to life through filming, directing, and producing the cinematic visual story.
The film centers around a mysterious hooded figure who symbolizes the spirit of hope, urging people to break free from the technological filters imposed by an elite. As the narrative unfolds, the characters experience moments of clarity, where they are able to open their eyes and see the world unfiltered, leading to a brief sense of liberation and genuine smiles. However, this freedom is short-lived as they are eventually consumed once again by the pervasive system.
Jovana Tomasevic's direction and cinematography effectively capture the mood and essence of the song, enhancing its powerful message. The film's imagery and storytelling encourage viewers to reflect on the implications of living in a world where narratives are heavily controlled, and the battle for reality and truth becomes increasingly challenging.
The inclusion of a quote from George Orwell's "1984" at the end of the film provides a fitting and haunting conclusion, emphasizing the dystopian theme and the importance of resisting manipulative narratives.
"Reality Show" is not only a compelling song but also a visually stunning and thought-provoking short film that sheds light on the complexities of navigating an increasingly technologically driven and controlled world. Motihari Brigade's collaboration with Jovana Tomasevic has resulted in a captivating visual experience that aligns seamlessly with the band's artistic expression and social commentary.
