Hip-Hop/Review Spliffz - La Résistance

Spliffz, based in Bern, Switzerland, has been making waves in the local scene since 2014. Starting out as a member of the group Dopefiendz (DFZ), they went on to release an EP after setting up a studio. In 2019, Spliffz showcased his versatility by dropping his debut album, "Enfant Terrible." In 2024, Spliffz was back with a bang, presenting his neck-breaker single "Gtfo," featuring the renowned underground legend Ruste Juxx.

Spliffz's “La Résistance” is a brilliant tribute to vintage Boombap rap that has been updated with modern flare and new vitality. The EP, which includes notable collaborations like "Lemonhaze" with Sadiga, demonstrates Spliffz's extraordinary lyrical skill and his capacity to combine nostalgia with originality. The project, which has sharp lyrics and gritty rhythms, perfectly captures the spirit of East Coast rap from the 1990s while firmly establishing itself in the current hip-hop scene.

Spliffz's unadulterated and unrefined storytelling is amplified by the production, which was done by Cultxre and Scarfacebeatz. Strong and multi-layered, the rhythms skillfully combine lyrical undertones with thunderous percussion. Songs like "Lemonhaze" are notable for their reflective lyrics and head-nodding beats, demonstrating Spliffz's ability to combine personal stories with universal themes.

With a clear, polished sound that amplifies its emotional and musical impact, the EP was recorded at the esteemed Steaming Stack studio and masterfully mixed and processed by NDM. “La Résistance” is evidence of Spliffz's development as an artist as it shows how he was able to draw inspiration from artists such as Onyx while developing his own unique sound.

The EP's themes of self-reflection and resiliency strike a deep chord, producing an intimate and anthemic listening experience. Spliffz establishes his position in contemporary hip-hop with “La Résistance,” a compilation of songs that are both timeless and current. Boombap aficionados and anybody looking for real, emotive rap talent should listen to this EP.
