Pop/Review Attack the Sound - Love Is War: Packed

Formed by Army veteran and current Chicago fireman Davo Sounds, Attack the Sound (ATS) has tirelessly made its mark on the Chicago music scene. Blending elements of jazz, hip hop, blues, gospel, and rock, ATS has pioneered the genre Chi-pop [Indie RnB/Pop]. Compared to the likes of Leon Bridges, Black Pumas, and John Legend, their electrifyingly smooth tone, coupled with dynamic live performances, has earned them collaborations with artists like Isaiah Sharkey, Bianca Shaw, Taylor Bennett, and JC Brooks.

In “Love Is War: Packed,” Chicago's Attack the Sound commemorates the fifth anniversary of their breakthrough track, "Love is War," with a new and lively reinvention. Their distinctive Chi-Pop sound—a blend of jazz, soul, indie R&B, and pop—is further cemented with this limited-edition EP, which not only revisits the classic song but also builds on its history with fresh remixes and new material.

Since their ascent, ATS has established a unique niche in the music business, securing partnerships with well-known musicians like Taylor Bennett, Bianca Shaw, and Isaiah Sharkey as well as winning noteworthy placements, such as a sync contract with the Chicago Bulls of the NBA. With performances at Taste of Chicago and NXNE solidifying their status as a powerful group, they have garnered a devoted fan following and critical acclaim for their ability to fuse aspects of classic soul with modern production.

While remaining faithful to the unadulterated passion and musicianship that made the original song a fan favorite, ATS displays their growth on “Love Is War: Packed.” The song is given fresh life by the remixes, which present varied takes that showcase all facets of their talent. The EP's additional content, meanwhile, enhances the original song by extending its themes of love, adversity, and tenacity from a more mature standpoint.

Attack the Sound demonstrates their durability and versatility with this album, creating an anniversary effort that is both nostalgic and pleasantly contemporary. “Love Is War: Packed” is a declaration of their ongoing importance and ingenuity as well as a celebration of their history.
