Rock/Review The Listros - Into The Otherside

Brothers Sean & Evan Listro, The Listros, are bringing their hard-hitting, hook-driven modern rock sound to today's music scene. Fitting in a similar soundscape as the Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood, YUNGBLUD, and Tame Impala, and with a fully produced live show, these veteran performers have already sold out Toronto’s El Mocambo (400 cap), showcasing their debut unsigned EP.

The Listros make a striking entrance into the rock scene with their debut track, "Into The Otherside," released independently. Clearly influenced by '90s industrial and grunge giants like Nine Inch Nails, Muse, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Nirvana, the band embraces a modern rock sound that pays homage to its predecessors while carving out a distinct identity.

"Into The Otherside" kicks off with an immediate intensity, setting the tone for what unfolds as a high-energy modern rock anthem. The fusion of industrial and grunge elements is evident in the bold instrumentation, characterized by gritty guitars, dynamic drum patterns, and an overall edgy sonic atmosphere. The production quality is commendable, capturing the raw energy reminiscent of '90s alternative rock.

Vocally, The Listros deliver a performance that aligns with the genre's tradition of passionate and emotive expression. The lead vocals navigate the sonic landscape with a balance of intensity and melody, adding a layer of accessibility to the track. The vocal delivery complements the instrumental arrangement, creating a cohesive sonic experience.

The influence of bands like Nine Inch Nails is particularly palpable in the industrial undertones and electronic elements woven into the fabric of the song. These elements contribute to the track's modern rock appeal, providing a nod to the past while embracing contemporary production techniques.

“Into The Otherside” is an independent release displaying the ability of The Listros in translating influences and adding their flavour to it. As it does so, the band avoids mere mimicry and manages to maintain the relevance as well as appeal of the number.

Finally, The Listros’ “Into The Otherside” is an impressive first release that will keep them rooted in the contemporary rock world. The bands take into account the sound influence of the 1990 and bring new approach. It is a good indication of what potential lies within this band as they make foray into the contemporary rock scene, as an independent record.
