Rock/Review Almost - Disarm

Almost is a five-piece group with Arik Fritz and Tyler Schmidt on guitars, Syria Bonkowski on bass, Bramwell Miller on drums, and Cameron Bash on vocals. Bash and Schmidt have been internet friends for years. When Bash was leaving Chicago for Michigan, the two finally met in person and right away began collaborating on the handful of songs Bash had written. At a coffee shop in town, they first met Bonkowski and Miller, who were then playing in a punk band called ‘The Pink Skirts.’ The four joined forces and began hashing out the songs even more, but it wasn’t until Fritz joined the band that the group really came together to be the 5-piece rock act that they are today.

"Disarm," a song by Almost, is a succinct, under-two-minute package that offers an exciting dip into the nostalgic sounds of indie rock. With its powerful fusion of fast-paced energy, introspective themes, and performance art, the lead track instantly stands out in the indie rock landscape.

"Disarm," which has a modern spin on early 2000s indie rock, captivates the listener right away with its fast-paced beat and catchy guitar melodies. The track's electric atmosphere wonderfully complements its conceptual profundity, with a tangible urgency and intensity.

Lyrically, "Disarm" is directly inspired by Marina Abramovic's performance art work "Rest Energy," which delves deeply into the themes of trust and vulnerability in interpersonal relationships. Abramovic and her boyfriend Ulay balance the tension of a drawn bow and arrow in the sculpture, signifying the careful balancing act between power and trust that is necessary in any relationship. reflects this idea almost impeccably, delving into the emotional dangers and pleasures of close relationships via their music. The performance art's essence is eloquently captured in the lyrics, which prompt the audience to consider the fine balance between vulnerability and strength in their own relationships.

The way "Disarm" is performed is excellent. Almost's skill as songwriters is demonstrated by their ability to capture such strong feelings and ideas in less than two minutes. Because of the song's succinct composition, every second has significance and sticks in your head long after the last chord fades.

In conclusion, Almost's debut single "Disarm" is thrilling and thought-provoking. Anyone who like indie rock with substance and depth should definitely listen to it, as it not only demonstrates their musical prowess but also their ability to incorporate intricate ideas into their work. With "Disarm," Almost raises the standard for their next releases and promises a thrilling voyage for their fans as well as the band.
