Country/Review Nick Cain - Out of the Blue
At 39 years old, Nick Cain's life took an unplanned but welcome detour that changed everything he knew about passion and determination. It began at the Gorge in Eastern Washington, at a country music fest - Watershed - that strummed the strings of his heart just as much as those of the guitar he would pick up following the event in 2019. With no musical background to speak of, Nick dove headfirst into the melodies and rhythms of country music, dedicating every possible moment to self-taught sessions that echoed through the basement of his home.
The poignant country ballad "Out of the Blue" by Nick Cain masterfully conveys the wonder of love and hope showing up when you least expect it. Cain conveys an encouraging message about accepting life's unexpected rewards through heartfelt storytelling and his distinctive warm voice twang.
The song features an all-star roster of Nashville musicians, including Tim Galloway (Luke Bryan, Keith Urban), Shaun Richardson (Béla Fleck), and Drew Lawrence (Christina Perri, The Backstreet Boys). It was co-written by an amazing team consisting of Drew Lawrence, Jaden Micheals, and Gavin Slate. The end effect is a deep, natural sound that is intimate and anthemic, the ideal fusion of traditional rustic charm and contemporary refinement.
With its use of warm acoustic guitars, soft pedal steel, and steady drumming, “Out of the Blue” creates a reassuring yet upbeat musical mood. Throughout, Cain's warm, expressive vocals captivate the audience and seamlessly transport them to the song's message of love showing up at unexpected times.
Beyond its flawless production, “Out of the Blue's” genuineness is what really sets it apart. Cain helps you feel the surprises of life, not simply sing about them. It's a song that serves as a reminder to keep our hearts open since the greatest things in life might occasionally surprise us.
